Welcome to the 2025 Walking Barometer survey. The barometer measures the satisfaction of Helsinki residents with walking conditions and the quality of walking environments. Additionally, it provides information about the walking habits of city residents. By participating, you provide valuable information for the development of Helsinki's walking environments. The Walking Barometer is commissioned by the City of Helsinki and conducted by Taloustutkimus Oy.

Why have you been selected?

We have obtained your information from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency's population register. Respondents are randomly selected from the register.

Who can participate in this survey?

Everyone who has received this invitation can answer the survey. It takes about 15 minutes to complete. Participation is entirely voluntary, and you can stop at any time if you wish.

How can you answer the survey?

You can answer the survey in Finnish, Swedish, English, Russian, Somali, or Arabic using a computer or mobile device. It is easiest for visually impaired individuals to use a mobile device.

Why is the Walking Barometer conducted and how are the results used?

The Walking Barometer is a survey commissioned by the City of Helsinki's Urban Environment Division's Traffic and Street Planning Service. The 2025 Walking Barometer, conducted for the first time, is part of the overall study of walking. The barometer focuses on measuring satisfaction with walking conditions and the quality of walking environments, as well as gathering background information on residents' walking habits.

Monitoring data is a key part of systematic walking promotion, which is needed in planning, decision-making, and communication. Changes in perceived walking conditions measured by the Walking Barometer are visible in the long term. The survey is conducted every two years. Comparing survey results from different years allows us to identify real trends in perceived quality.

Confidentiality

Taloustutkimus handles your name and address information, as well as language information, to send the invitation letter. This information is not shared, not linked to responses, and is securely destroyed after the survey ends. You will not receive any "spam" as a result of participating.

Taloustutkimus records your responses and keeps them confidential. Your responses are processed anonymously. In the analysis of results, your responses are combined with those of other survey participants.

By answering the survey, the respondent consents to the use of their responses for the aforementioned purposes. Contact information for the prize draw is used only for the prize draw. Taloustutkimus is responsible for the prize draw.
